In 1991 two churches were planted in Mongolia, but, prior to that, there had been no churches there since the Middle Ages. Today there are over 300 churches spread across the country. Rejoice with the Christians who are celebrating "20 Years of Christ's Mongolian Church". Pray for a maturing, Spirit-led church, faithful to God’s Word and reaching out in evangelism.
Recently, a 14.5 metre high bronze statue of Confucius was erected at the side of Tiananmen Square. The resurgence of Confucianism [in China] has been encouraged, partly to fill the spiritual vacuum left by outdated ideologies, and to reinforce national identity. Pray for Christians as they respond to the changing spiritual climate in China.
The regions of Japan worst affected by the tsunami are the least evangelised areas of the country, and have deep spiritual needs. OMF is embarking on a two-year project in Iwate Prefecture, working closely with local churches to reach out with love, practical care and the hope of the gospel.
