Brazil - angel

Audrey Taylor from Rickmansworth helped to translate the Bible into the Kaiwa language of Brazil until she retired. She has just returned from a visit to Brazil with a remarkable story…

“There was a lot of panic about one of the young men,” Audrey said. “He is a drug addict, violent and ruthless, and he had gone on a killing spree. The day after I arrived there, I heard that he had just killed another victim, robbing him and mutilating his body. The police could never find him.

“One day, he was bragging to his friends about how many people he had killed, and read out a hit-list of future victims. One of them was a young woman called Jovita.

“Jovita always cycles to and from the school where she works as a cleaner, along a rather lonely track in the forest. One day when she was going home alone, she rounded a bend, and there, coming towards her, was the assassin. She felt her end was near; there was no way to escape.

“’When he saw me, he turned round and went back the way he had come, and I realised I was safe!’ Jovita told me.

“‘Then I remembered: every morning I read the Bible, and that day I had read Psalm 91. Now I realised that God had done as he promises in verse 10: No harm will befall you, no disaster will come near you.

“‘Later this man told his friends, “I couldn't do anything to Jovita because she had someone with her.”

“’Psalm 91:11 says, He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.  So it was an angel that he saw with me that day, because there wasn’t anyone else there!’”
