I had been taken to St John's Church on and off as a child, and throughout my life I would always have considered myself a Christian. I believed in God, I was christened and confirmed. Wasn’t that enough? But I had reached a point in my life when I just knew there was more to it.

At work I had a Christian colleague whom I would regularly question, I looked at Heather and knew something was different about her. We were both Christians, but she had something I didn't, and I couldn't understand what it was. (Life continued, I changed jobs and lost contact with Heather until I became saved.

A year later Sheryl, a good friend of mine came to visit me one evening. I had learnt that she had become a Christian and couldn't understand her sudden interest and excitement in the church. Sheryl was glowing and so full of the Holy Spirit that when I questioned her about it she couldn’t wait to tell me all about her new faith. I told Sheryl about the strong desire I had to go back to church but I had my reservations about giving up my Sundays to go to church. Also, I wasn’t sure how long my commitment of sitting through services would last until it phased out again.

Sheryl told me about Jesus. She explained that creation had fallen because of sin. This caused us to be out of relationship with God, which was not how it was meant to be, but because we have an amazing, awesome God who loves us so much (and who loves me very much) he sent his son Jesus to save us. All I would have to do is acknowledge that I am a sinner, ask Jesus for forgiveness and ask him into my life, and through Jesus I could have a relationship with God!

It was like the scales had been removed from my eyes. Suddenly everything Heather had ever told me made sense, and I had never felt a peace like it. I find it hard to describe how I felt; it was like I was floating, even drunk. It was my first experience of the Holy Spirit.

In April 2010 I was baptised and haven't looked back since. I still, like all Christians, face challenges on a day to day basis, but now that I have God on my side I don’t have to face them alone. Even when I fail I thank God that he picks me up, brushes me down and lets me start again.

We have an amazing God who loves us all so much that he came into the world to save us! Amen!
