Meike Taylor

My name is Meike. I’m married to Aled. We have three children: Kai (9), William (7) and Elen (nearly 6). They attend the Borras Junior School and the Borras Infant School.

I was born in 1966 in West Germany. My parents belonged to the Lutheran Church but were not practicing Christians. When I was eleven I wanted to learn to play the guitar, and a course was run by a Free Evangelical Church in my home village. Afterwards I was invited to stay on for the Jungschar (an After School Club for ages 9-13 similar to Banana Club at St. John’s).

In the summer of 1980, when I was 13, this church ran a tent mission. That's where I realised my need for Jesus as my Saviour. Soon afterwards I started helping to run the “Jungschar”; and later on the After School Club and Sunday School for the younger children aged 4-8. There was an active youth group in the church. There was also a students' prayer group in my school. I was confirmed into the Lutheran Church at age 14.

I studied Medicine in Hanover 1987-1994. We ran a Christian book stall and prayer group at the university; and in my church I did youth work. I was involved with the youth café, the youth group and the youth choir. My friend had the idea of a breakfast prayer group, and we started this group together with about 8-10 people. This prayer group has carried on for many years. I was also baptised by immersion at this time.

At the university there was a course called “English for Runaways” aimed at students who wanted to do elective periods in Britain or the USA. I did two elective periods in 1991, in the Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Dyfed, where I discovered my love for Wales and its people.

After working for a year in Lisburn (near Belfast), I first came to Wrexham in August 1995. Aled and I met in a house group at the Methodist Church (Regent Street). During 1996 I returned to Germany to be close to my family as my mother was terminally ill with cancer. I came back to Wrexham in September, 1996, and Aled and I were married in 1997.

After we moved to Borras Park the children arrived. We started looking for a local church, which would suit us as a family. Eventually we have settled at St. John’s Church, where we have found a new home for about one and a half years now.

My life as a Christian in recent years has been a bit up and down as I missed my German friends and family as well as my work. I stopped working just before I had Kai and did not return, because I lost confidence after suffering from postnatal depression and worsening deafness after the births of William and Elen.

I know Jesus loves me, and He has carried me through the more difficult times and has always called me back to Him.

Finally, let me mention some of my favourite Bible verses.

Psalm 50.15  -  God’s emergency line, which is open 24/7

Psalm 121  -  My help comes from the Lord

Matthew 7.7  -  Ask, seek, knock (my confirmation verse)

2 Timothy 2.13  - God’s faithfulness
