Rebekah's farewell meal

After her arrival in Wrexham Rebekah Budigapogu found out that her course at Glyndwr University was not available. Sophie and David Dixon kindly invited her to stay with them. This she did for the past six months. Her close friend Jaffar and another 15 or so people responded to Rebekah's invitation to a delicious farewell meal in the Dixons' home on Wednesday evening, 4th January, when David Edwards gave a farewell message.

The next day David, Sophie and Jaffar drove Rebekah to Manchester Airport where there was an emotional farewell as Rebekah said how much she had enjoyed her time in Wrexham.

Puppets

On Sunday, October 30th, 2011 the church welcomed Graham Rideal and Andy Avery to St. John's. Graham is a member of the Queen Street Christian Centre in Chester, and Andy a member of Hoole Baptist Church. Graham and Andy gave a snapshot of the kind of presentation which they make in Chester schools. The 'farmer' who sowed his seed in the Parable of the Sower was a great hit with both young and old.

Dedication

On Sunday, October 30th, 2011 the congregation of St. John's joyfully observed the dedication of Tinashe Joshua Zimunya, son of Xav and Hannah Zimunya. They promised to do all they could to help and support the family.

Wrexham in Bloom

altalt

St John's has accepted an invitation to support Wrexham County Borough Council's entry into the Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions. The church has met with representatives from several local organizations which may be able to help carry out the work that we would like to see done.

As a result of our willingness to support Wrexham’s bid, the Council have pressure-washed the foot paths around the Church and Hall, provided the planters, including the compost, soil and plants and provided and spread the bark chippings on the flower beds. The delivery of the plants was arranged to coincide with our Banana Club meeting whose theme for the day was the Parable of the Sower. The children did the planting!

Victorian Tea

alt

Sunday afternoon, May 22nd, saw about 70 people sit down to a wonderfully prepared Victorian Tea.

The tables were laid  with beautiful tablecloths, china teacups and teapots.

alt

The 10 'waitresses' and the doorman looked splendid in their period outfits and took their parts very seriously,
showing people to the tables and waiting on them.

alt

Andrea and Steve Shotton contributed to the flavour of the afternoon with music from the 18thand 19thcenturies.

Some of the delicious home-made cakes which graced the tables.

Although the main purpose was fellowship and friendship, £285 was donated by those enjoying the homemade sandwiches and cakes. The Social Committee are to be thanked and congratulated for putting on such a great event!
